Victory Blog!

Well, i'm pickin' the bills to win tomorrow, just like every Sunday. But this victory blog is in honor of Pohono and his special ability to prove Hobo and Stogie wrong!

Rewind six months, folks... sitting in the office at work, and Stogie comes in to show me a website about a guy that carves and sells his own pipes. Stogie is thinking i should buy one. I'm thinking thats really cool - never had a pipe, but sounds like a heck of an idea. But wait... This guy online - he says he starts with "blanks" to carve them. Whats a blank? one quick google search later, i find out that you can order blanks pre-drilled and ready to smoke. So what do i say? "Dude, i could do that". Stogie - no way. Hobo - no way. Me - hell yes - i can do that! not only can i carve a pipe - i can carve a Buffalo Bills pipe! Hobo - lets wager...

So here's the photo story of The Victory of Pohono!!!

These are the Blanks that came in the mail. My first pipe was a standard design - came out great, but i don't have the pictures of that one handy, so we'll focus on the buffalo!

Sketched out and ready to rough-carve.

Rough cut, rough sanded, but still a ways to go...

After a LOT of hours of sanding and applying texture, the first coat of stain went on...

And there she is - the finished product.

So what was the wager? pre-carving, Hobo laid out that if 3 of 5 people in the parking lot opening weekend recognize whatever blob of wood i carve as a bills logo, i win a pouch of high quality tobacco. As he saw it come together, he changed the bet about 10 times since i was on track for a win, but end of the day, i went five for five and just waiting to collect...

So if you're in B-lo next weekend for the houston game, swing over to the camper lot, find me, and you'll get to witness the Smokin' Buffalo enjoying the sweet tobacco-smelling scent of victory!

A few days late and i just don't care...

Team Buffalo - i'ma let ya finish, but first i gotta say i'm just not getting excited about the bills these last few weeks. Nothing like a good tailgate (pics coming), and it's been a ton of fun going up to the games, but just brutal to watch... even the J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck game, while posting a W, doesn't make me feel good about the team...

I will say this now, and hope that it remains truth for the rest of my football watching days: The Bills/Browns game at the Ralph was, without a doubt, the worst football game i've ever seen in my life. EVER! If i ever see one that bad again, i'm gonna gouge out my eyes.

So, lets hit rewind. The Saints game... Where did it all go wrong? If i'm not mistaken, the offence was down at the Big Tree Inn tossing them back while the Erie Community College football team was trying to score a few points on the Saints. The D looked great, until they wore down in the fourth, but the O was pitiful. So what do we do in Bills-land when this happens? Yep - we focus on the tailgate.

Suhoski and I left Harrisburg at 6:15am, rolling fast to Beautiful Orchard Park. In record time, we pulled into the infamous Lot 1, threw up the tailgate tent, and started the fun... Hanging out with some new friends from Canada, tailgating, tossing the football, grilling some brawts... feeling kinda guilty about the poor guy who got talked into selling imported chinese "authentic" hats and got arrested... Good times, friends!

!

And of course, ya gotta end the night at Duffs - win or lose!!!

Hello, this is officer Park...

Finally, update on Week 2, the HOME OPENER! only a day or so until Pohono and Suhoski depart to cheer on the boys in blue as they beat down the mighty Brees!

What can a guy say about our first weekend in the camper lot this year... unbelievable! Joining Hobo and Pohono was Hobo's friend Harder. Yep. thats his name. After Pohono went dark Saturday afternoon, here's what went down...

After hanging out with the boyz from vermont at the Big Tree, headed back to the camper lot to wait for Hobo and Harder to arrive. once the boys made it, they got settled and we hung in the camper lot for a while. a relatively uneventful night until Michelle showed her face... Who is Michelle? outstanding question, my friends! Words don't describe our new friend, the can-collecter extraordinare with nine kids, three cell phones (one of which is proudly paid for with food stamps - say you're welcome, tax payer), and one truly interesting disposition...

Thats Michelle. Not sure what she was doing with Harder at this point, but most of the pictures are not fit for our humble old blog here. Gotta tell ya, though... one of our boyz from Vermont was diggin' old stanky can lady!!! The crowning moment... Paul called. Who is Paul? Paul, my friends, is Michelle's old man. but see, she didn't want to talk to him. So, she passes the phone to Pohono. "tell him i was arrested and i'll call him back later". so i did (hey, i always follow instructions from the scarey crazy lady). Paul wasn't too agreeable to that conversation, so i hung up. Five minutes later, Paul calls back. Pohono ran away. Hobo did not. So, the phone went to Hobo... "Tell him i'm at the police station! It'll be funny!". So Hobo did... "Hello. This is Officer Park of the Orchard Park Police Department...". I can't even tell you the rest of the conversation, friends. Hobo had me and the rest of us (Michelle) in tears with his portrayel of an officer of the law...

After Pohono finally got rid of Michelle (it took some serious effort!), we made our way around and hung out with our new found friends and neighbors... Hobo and I are still tryin to figure out who this guy is... If you recognize him, lemme know!

At some point in time, somebody got the great idea to go back to the Big Tree. Pohono, Hobo and Harder made their way... The rest of the night is history. History i'm sure somebody remembers, but it isn't Hobo!!!!

Sunday dawned and promised to be a beautiful day for a football game! Not a ton to say - great times hanging out, tailgating with 70,000 of our closest friends, and of course Hobo cruizing on his new found toy (see ya later saturn - hobo's got a new love)...

According to our new friend Squirrel... "Chicks Dig It!!!"

Game time - fantastic time sitting in the new seats, cheering on the Bills on their way to a dominating performance against the Bucs...

And i know y'all are asking... "Tell me, Pohono! How did the evening end? What did you crazy sumbeyotches do to top it all off? Did you go rock the Big Tree? Did you riot in the streets of Buffalo? Did you burn the camper lot to the ground? Tell us! TELL US!!!!"

Yep - those that know Hobo know how the evening ended...

Let the Games Begin!!!

Pohono here - reporting from the Camper Lot for home opening weekend 2009!!! GO BILLS!!!!

Pulled into the lot a few minutes after 9, got the camper all set up, and have been meeting the neighbors... some of Pohono's coworkers are expecting some work to get done, so the last hour or so spent in a very dissapointing way - working... still some in front of me, then the fun begins.

good neighbors - bucs fans from Toronto in front of us, Bills fans from Vermont behind us... i may be hanging out in the pohono-lodge by myself, but i will NOT be tailgating alone for the next 8-9 hours until Hobo gets here...

Kids Day - is turning your 3 year old into a Bills fan child abuse?

OK, Bills fans. Pohono is back, gonna make sure i don't keep y'all wondering why we aren't posting. As you see below, my boy Hobo posted his one blog post of the season, so it's up to me from here on out, and i won't disappoint!!!

Coming between now and the week one Monday Night opener against the Patsies, i don't have a heck of a lot to say about football. have ya seen the bills starting offense play this pre-season? yeah, thats right. not much to say. TO in B-lo will help, but lets see. so, what is there to talk about? tonight, it's Kids Day in review. up next, lets take a more in depth look at the high quality Chinese jerseys. and also in store, for those who have been waiting to see it... lets take a look at the Buffalo Pipe. thats right, bills fans, it's done and ready to smoke!

So, kids day. Pohono jumped on the bandwagon for kids day about 3 minutes after saying "no way i'm taking my 3 year old to The Ralph". i couldn't resist. So, friday evening, Pohono and Lil' Pohono jumped in the truck and headed north to NY. a late arrival and quick to bed, so we could get up for Game Day on saturday!

Hobo and Hobo Jr. hit the road Saturday morning, with the plan to meet at Duff's for lunch before a little tailgating. so, with some time to kill. Lil' Pohono and i headed to the lake for a little morning R&R. No fishing - save that for post-game.

Early afternoon, the Hobo-Phone connects. they are close. pissin and moanin about traffic and detours, but you could smell the anticipation in his voice thinking about Duff's. Off we go - heading to meet them.

Duff's - what can a guy say. I was in heaven. Wings. Labatts. Duff's fries. Wings. Wings. And, in case ya missed it, wings. The boys ate too, but it didn't have the word "wing" in it, so i forget what they had. after lunch, lil' pohono had a special private moment with the Duffs bar. I was proud beyond words. it's rare that a dad and son can have so much in common at such an early age...

Post Duff's - off to the Ralph for some tailgating and kids day events. Hobo and Pohono are proud to say that our boys are following in the tradition and becoming bills fans for life. Enjoy the pics!

Hobo is going to have to get his pic's up too - i know he has some good ones too.

One Day Until the First HOME Preseason Game

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are a mere 24 hours away from the first home preseason game of the 2009 season. Following the HOF game on Sunday, we still have a few kinks to work out on both sides of the ball....however, the optimism is still high for a GREAT season. Hobo predicts a 12-4 campaign. Pohono calls him crazy.

Tomorrow we are taking the young lads to the game with us, little Hobo and even littler Pohono. Kids day at the Ralph, always a good time. I still remember my first game at the Ralph like it was yesterday....Lady Hobo sitting through a torrential downpour all the while earning wife of the year honors for completing the trifecta of Buffalo’s finest....a Bills Game, a trip to Ted's Hot dogs, and a trip to Duff's Wings all within 24 hours.

Go Bills, Bears stink.

Lot's of this over the next 5 months:

Everybody can learn from Pinto Ron!

As the season draws near, the stories will begin, my friends. Pohono, Hobo and Suhoski are planning for a GREAT season of tailgating, and watching Trent, Lee, Marshawn and TO lead the boys to win after win after win...

Lets kick off the season with an homage to the worlds greatest tailgater, Pinto Ron!!!! Hobo and Pohono kicked off last season with some Lot One antics, and saw first hand how The Pinto handles a tailgate - if you haven't been there yet, put it on your radar screen for opening day!
